Hammond reported $3,459 in contributions for the period ending Dec. 31, and Nichols reported $2,790 for the same period, according to campaign finance reports filed with the city clerk's office.

Each of the candidates incurred expenses during the period, largely for campaign materials such as photos, logos, buttons, cards, yard signs, T-shirts and websites.

The top two finishers in the Feb. 20 nonpartisan primary election will advance to the April 2 election. The winner of the race will earn a four-year term as mayor and succeed incumbent Don Merkes, who didn't seek reelection after 16 years in office.
