Grandmother, former NFL cheerleader from Wisconsin will compete on 'The Golden Bachelor'
A grandmother and former NFL cheerleader from Middleton will be competing for the heart of fellow Midwesterner Gerry Turner on ABC's senior-focused dating show spinoff, "The Golden Bachelor."
Renee is one of 22 "accomplished golden ladies" between ages 60 and 75 who will take time out of their already full lives to "rediscover" love. Hopefully, with Turner.
On paper, it appears Renee, 67, and Turner, 71, could have quite a few things in common right off the bat besides being Midwesterners.
Renee is a former Chicago Honey Bear cheerleader, according to her show bio. And, Turner cheers for Chicago sports teams. Renee enjoys walking around Lake Mendota. Turner lives on an Indiana lake.
Something Renee isn't into? Fishy-tasting fish. With Turner being a retired restaurateur — and residing on a lake — perhaps he knows a thing or two on how to prevent that.
Renee's show bio describes her as a "caring" mother and grandmother, who enjoys spending time with her kids, grandkids and cat. In Turner's, he's called a "doting" father and grandfather, who's often busy spending time with his family.
With their support, Turner is "ready to put himself out there and find a love that will stand the test of time in his golden years."
"I believe that I'm here for a reason, and I think that's to meet Gerry," Renee said in a "Meet the Ladies of The Golden Bachelor" video posted to YouTube.
"The most romantic thing" Renee has ever done is make a homemade blanket for someone so he "could always feel my warmth and love around him," her show bio says. And, with Wisconsin's brutal winters? 15/10 gift, Renee.
Here's some more about the local contestant: She's written two books, plants flowers and attends group fitness classes.
Oh, and she "really" wants to meet Harry Styles — who does happen to have a song titled "Golden."
The show will debut at 7 p.m. CT Sept. 28 on ABC, and will stream the next day on Hulu.
