Former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry reportedly will be hired as Miami Dolphins linebackers coach and run-game coordinator, according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero.

Barry, the Packers defensive coordinator the last three years, was fired after the season and replaced by former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley. The Dolphins finished 11-6 in 2023 under coach Mike McDaniel and qualified for the playoffs, falling to Kansas City in the wild-card round of the postseason.

After one year as Dolphins defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio left Miami for the same job with the Eagles. Incumbent linebackers coach Anthony Campanile interviewed for the defensive coordinator spot that ultimately went to Anthony Weaver, and the Miami Herald reported that Campanile is pursuing other opportunities.

Barry has had success in this role before. In 2020, he was linebackers coach for the Rams when Los Angeles led the NFL in total defense and was third in run defense. Barry has also been linebackers coach for the San Diego Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and at college stops with Northern Arizona, UNLV and USC. Despite his ample experience, he's had a largely forgettable three turns as defensive coordinator with Detroit, Washington and now Green Bay.

Green Bay finished 28th in rushing yards allowed per game in 2023.
